Social Issue: Mindfulness

Campers let their imaginations take over with their very own baked and decorated cookie business! Campers visited Madison College, which offers a Baking & Decorative Arts program, and learned to bake their cookies. In between designing a business logo, creating ads and a video commercial, and selling to real customers, campers explored the importance of food justice. With a field trip to Badger Rock, the campers got to learn, harvest and plant vegetables, and cook their own meal.

Social Issue: Humane Treatment of Animals

Campers made everyday count with self care by making their own scented lotions! In between making lotion, they journal everyday about their feelings, and got to express their imaginations with beautiful drawings. Guests from from Badger Rock taught them how to make herbal salve and learned the ways of honey and beeswax processing. Equipped with a wealth of new knowledge, campers got to work creating a logo, ads, and video commercial for their business — they even sold to real customers! The fun does not end there, who doesn’t enjoy being pampered. Our campers spent the day at the Madison College Salon, and got their nails and hair done. The campers got to learn about the importance of self care and learned about ways they can do self care themselves.

Campers spread light and joy by launching their very own candle business! In between designing a business logo, creating ads and a video commercial, and selling to real customers, campers explored uplifting mindfulness techniques. They practiced being present and accepting their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, while having fun trying yoga, meditation, and dance! Campers considered the flipside of mindfulness — a lack of presence and acceptance that leads to stress and anxiety — and explored ways their business could help those affected.

Campers made every day a bit sweeter by opening their very own gummy animal candy business! Campers visited Madison College, which offers a Baking & Decorative Arts program, and learned to make and package homemade truffles. They also met with the owner of Edible Arrangements, which creates and sells gourmet chocolate-dipped fruit baskets. Equipped with a wealth of new knowledge, campers got to work creating a logo, ads, and video commercial for their business — they even sold to real customers! To round out the fun, campers shifted their focus from gummy animals to the real deal. They met a few furry residents of Henry Vilas Zoo and learned how the zoo keeps its animals happy and safe. They also explored how their new business could support the humane treatment of all animals!
